A filmmaker with an Oscar will headline a mobile film event downtown this week.
The Mosaic Film Experience, in collaboration with The Midwest Tech Project, is producing A Night with Oscar Winner Kevin Willmott on Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Studio Park.
Willmott and his fellow co-writers won an Academy Award for best adapted screenplay for the 2018 film “BlacKkKlansman.”
His keynote address will detail his 30-year career in film, screenwriting and cinematography. The talk will cover how he uses film to explore race, class, identity and American culture, as well as his inspirations.
Willmott has written and directed six feature films and numerous documentaries: “Ninth Street”; “CSA – Confederate States of America”; “The Only Good Indian”; “The Battle for Bunker Hill”; “Destination Planet Negro!”; “Jayhawkers” and more.
Most recently, he co-wrote the soon-to-be-released “Da Five Bloods” with director Spike Lee.
The event will also feature a screening and awards ceremony for college finalists in the Mosaic Mobile competition, where students shoot, edit and submit short films on mobile devices.
